Building Accommodations

Automatic doors are located at the Fort Street and Washington Boulevard entrances. Four public elevators provide access to all court floors, and are large enough to accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. The elevator cabs have braille signage and emergency call features that accommodate individuals with visual and hearing impairment. The building fire alarm system is equipped with speaker/strobe indicators.

There is a unisex/handicapped accessible restroom on each court floor.

Handicapped parking is available at many parking establishments surrounding the building.

Courtroom Accommodations

By mandate of the Judicial Conference, the Court is required to make reasonable accommodations for deaf and hearing impaired participants that have proceedings before the court. Participants in a court proceeding are defined as parties, attorney and witnesses. The required accommodations include sign language interpretation and assisted listening device equipment.

Sign Language Interpretation

Sign language interpretation services are available to court participants. Arrangements should be made with the court at least two weeks prior to court proceedings.

Assisted Listening Device

Assisted listening devices that will aid in the volume of the sound system during court proceedings are available in several courtrooms for hearing impaired participants. Participants needing an assisted listening device should speak with courtroom personnel for accommodations.

Flint and Bay City Locations

Building Accommodations

Handicapped parking is available at the front of both buildings and entrances are wheel chair accessible. Automatic doors are not available at the buildings.

The buildings are equipped with braille signage.

All public restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
